Race Base Structures

What/Why of Base Structure?

The base of the ski is to contact point between the ski and the snow surface. Performance is dependent on the relationship between creating a thin layer of water and repelling that thin layer of water.  Both structure and wax all help the ski create and manage the layer or water as you glide.  Ideally the structure on the bottom of the ski will minimize the friction and break the suction in very wet snow conditions.

Types of Structure

Patterns are plentiful with the latest and most advanced tuning machines.  However, the structures have their origins in two basic categories: Lineal and Cross.  For race skis, Peak offers a choice of 3 specific structures:

  • HOOP - Designed for Both SL & GS

              Hoop 1      Hoop 2

  • Tech - Designed for GS & SG

  • Speed - Designed for SG & DH

              Speed 1      Speed 3
